About the Event
This is a powerful, flowing class designed to move energy through your body. It combines breath and movement into a dynamic sequence of poses. In this class you'll tone and stretch your body and your mind and you’ll leave the class ignited with new vitality.
The theme for Mental Health Week is KINDNESS. The focus for each class will be the heart centre. Expect poses which open up your chest while strengthening the back body.
The practice of yoga helps you work with the nature of the mind, the nature of being a human, how emotions live in your body, how they affect your behavior and your mind. Some mental health benefits of a regular yoga practice include:
- It moves you out from the fight-or-flight mode to a more relaxed state (rest-and-digest)
- It helps getting to know yourself and cultivate a non-judgemental relationship with yourself
- It improves your relationships. When you’re more centered and peaceful with yourself, you’ll reflect those qualities to the people you interact with
- It enhances sleep quality because of its effects on melatonin and its impact on several common contributors to sleep problems, like depression symptoms, anxiety, chronic pain
